Junior Player Development U10s–U18s
Junior Player Development (U10s–U18s)
Junior player development is at the heart of the Slammers pathway, providing young athletes with the skills, knowledge and support needed to grow their game. From U10s through to U18s, players are guided through age-appropriate programs that focus on skill development, teamwork, game understanding and personal growth. Through local competition, representative basketball and WABL opportunities, athletes are challenged to reach their potential in a positive and supportive environment, preparing them for the next stage of their basketball journey.
Coach & Official Training Programs
Coach & Official Training Programs
The Slammers are committed to developing the next generation of coaches and officials through structured education, mentoring and practical experience. For many coaches, the journey begins within our WABL program, where they gain valuable experience working with developing athletes while building their coaching knowledge and leadership skills. Through ongoing training, accreditation opportunities and support from experienced mentors, coaches and officials are equipped with the tools to progress through representative basketball and into high-performance pathways, helping strengthen the game across the South West.
Elite Pathways
Elite Pathways
The Slammers provide aspiring athletes with a pathway to compete at the highest levels of basketball. Through representative programs, WABL and NBL1 West, players are exposed to elite coaching, high-performance environments and strong competition that supports their continued development. Our pathway creates opportunities for talented athletes to progress to state and national programs, collegiate basketball and professional opportunities, while representing the South West with pride both on and off the court.
how it works
STEP 1
The Beginning Junior Level for fun
Every basketball journey starts with a love of the game. At the junior level, players are introduced to basketball in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment where they can learn fundamental skills, build confidence and develop friendships. Through local competitions and development programs, young athletes are encouraged to enjoy the game, stay active and build the foundations for future participation, whether their goal is social basketball or progressing through the Slammers pathway.
STEP 2
Intermediate Level
As players develop their skills and passion for the game, opportunities become available to compete at a higher level through representative basketball programs. This stage includes participation in WABL and State Performance Program (SPP) pathways, where athletes are challenged through advanced coaching, higher-level competition and increased training commitments. These experiences help players refine their skills, deepen their understanding of the game and prepare for future opportunities within elite basketball pathways.
STEP 3
Making Seniors
For many players, the next step in their basketball journey is transitioning into senior competition through the Open Championship League (formerly D-League). This level provides athletes with the opportunity to compete against experienced senior players, continue developing their skills and adapt to the physical and strategic demands of the adult game. The Open Championship League serves as an important bridge between junior representative basketball and higher-level pathways, helping players prepare for opportunities within the Slammers’ senior programs and beyond.
STEP 4
NBL1
NBL1 West represents the pinnacle of the Slammers player pathway, providing athletes with the opportunity to compete in one of Australia’s premier semi-professional basketball competitions. Players benefit from elite coaching, high-performance training environments and competition against some of the country’s best talent. NBL1 West serves as a gateway to further opportunities in the NBL, WNBL, collegiate basketball and international leagues, while allowing athletes to represent the South West at the highest level.
