Junior Player Development (U10s–U18s)

Junior player development is at the heart of the Slammers pathway, providing young athletes with the skills, knowledge and support needed to grow their game. From U10s through to U18s, players are guided through age-appropriate programs that focus on skill development, teamwork, game understanding and personal growth. Through local competition, representative basketball and WABL opportunities, athletes are challenged to reach their potential in a positive and supportive environment, preparing them for the next stage of their basketball journey.

Coach & Official Training Programs

Coach & Official Training Programs

The Slammers are committed to developing the next generation of coaches and officials through structured education, mentoring and practical experience. For many coaches, the journey begins within our WABL program, where they gain valuable experience working with developing athletes while building their coaching knowledge and leadership skills. Through ongoing training, accreditation opportunities and support from experienced mentors, coaches and officials are equipped with the tools to progress through representative basketball and into high-performance pathways, helping strengthen the game across the South West.

Elite Pathways

Elite Pathways

The Slammers provide aspiring athletes with a pathway to compete at the highest levels of basketball. Through representative programs, WABL and NBL1 West, players are exposed to elite coaching, high-performance environments and strong competition that supports their continued development. Our pathway creates opportunities for talented athletes to progress to state and national programs, collegiate basketball and professional opportunities, while representing the South West with pride both on and off the court.

What is WABL?

The Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) is Western Australia’s premier junior representative basketball competition. It provides talented players with the opportunity to compete against the state’s best athletes across multiple age groups, while developing their skills in a high-performance environment. WABL includes competitions from Under 12s through to Under 20s, as well as the Championship division. Contact wabl@southwestslammers.com.au for more info.

WABL trials are held annually before the start of each season and are open to eligible players looking to represent the South West Slammers. Trial dates, age groups and registration details are published on our website and social media channels. Players are encouraged to register early and attend all scheduled trial sessions to give themselves the best opportunity to be selected.

The State Performance Program (SPP) is Basketball WA’s high-performance development pathway for talented junior athletes. Players selected into the program receive advanced coaching, skill development and high-level training designed to prepare them for state representation and future elite basketball opportunities. The program complements representative basketball and provides a valuable stepping stone towards higher levels of the game.
